Cheap/Cheep Bird and Botanical Sideboard

Good day to you! We have taken a few steps back into Winter here in Northern Va.
But, what is a foot of snow to us? Onward we march towards Spring☺

I decided to go with a bird and botanical theme for our sideboard.

Shopping our house keeps me on budget. Free always sounds good to me.

Cheap and Cheep☺

Steps taken to create my Cheap/Cheep Botanical Sideboard
1. Black&cream ticking
2.Black&cream toile- unhemmed because I like the frayed edge
3.Line up of vintage botanical pictures-varied frames and sizes
4.White ironstone soup tureen-layered on white platters, touch of greenery
5.Metal looking objects on both sides
6.Greenery on both sides
7.Various textures to keep thing interesting
8.Scattered birds, bird houses, pictures

Thank you,

Marty at A Stroll Thru Life and

 Angela at Knick of Time

for featuring my Sun Room Post

Both of you are so kind.

Hope you are doing remarkably well.

Blessings, Audrey

Spring Vignette

Even though it is freezing outside right at this moment....
I have great confidence that Spring is on its way.
We have jumped into Daylight Savings.
So that means Spring WILL get here☺

In the mean time I am dragging out more of our Spring doodads.

Our dining room table has been freshened up with a new vignette.

I started with a black and cream table runner that I made last year.
Then on top of the runner goes a really old mirror that we found eons ago at a flea market.

Then I placed a cream colored pitcher {TJMax} filled with faux flowers,
real ones will come later.

Next,
 I placed a sweet bluebird/cabbage teapot {flea market} that just epitomizes Spring
and makes me smile when I look at it.

Next,
I placed a plate stand with a cream plate
and a pretty light green plate in front.

 Still working on my sideboard.

Slowly working my way over into the kitchen.....
emphasis on the word slowly.

Don't forget to throw in a touch of whimsy.
You don't want your creation to look like anybody else just came in and decorated your house.
If you like something....
 use it.
If it makes you smile....
use it☺
That's where these cute little knick-knacks come in.....
pure whimsy and fun.

You are a uniquely created individual.
Your home should reflect your individuality.
Looking  at homes on Pinterest and gorgeous decorating blogs is a good thing.
Get ideas and then translate them into your style and have fun doing it.

Summer Sideboard....with an OLD Window

We have quite a stash of old windows in our back shed....
that I have been meaning to use.

There is such a plethora of ideas....
Pinterest, other lovely blogs....
I was getting information overload....
the paralysis of analysis...
actually....

I was
just plain old lazy!

They were really dirty,
so I scrubbed them down, let them dry,

Painted this one and hung it outside...
you can read about it here.

and kept this one with it's distressed -'cause- it's- old look.

I found one of the hymns at Angie's Knick of Time.
 She has a lovely blog,
loads of redos on all kinds of stuff....
the things she can do with metal and old doodads!
AMAZING!
On Wednesdays she has a lot of antique graphics that you can download and print. Go look, but come back...wait, wait...finish here first because you will want to look at ALL of Angie's stuff!

I layered some of my scrapbook stuff and 2 b/w pictures.
One of my grandma and one of David's grandparents.
They are taped in so I can change the pictures out.
{sorry about the glare}

I kept the linen fabric and propped the window against the back of our sideboard.

We ripped our carpet out a few years ago and nailed pine boards down....
love our floors!

This guy has been outside for awhile,
decided to paint him with a faux stone finish....
looks like cement doesn't he.

My cloche was featured earlier in the week here.

My alabaster scale was just too visually airy....
didn't balance with the cloche,
so I replaced it with a trifle bowl turned upside down over a seashell...
much better.

Hope you like it.

My tablescape was in last weeks post....here.

Hope your week is amazingly wonderful!

 Blessings, Audrey

Christmas Sideboard

Last week I revealed my  shameful secret!!!

I am a lazy decorator!

 Now you know the truth.

I showed you how I layer in the winter stuff that will stay there on my buffet ALL WINTER....
right up to Valentine's Day.

Now the Christmas Layer goes in!

 See the first layer here.

No one can accuse me of being a minimalist...nope...to me less is just that ......less.

As you can see I love layering textures and colors.

The table is covered in ticking.

The centerpiece is an old, old framed mirror. [will show this up close in a later post]

We put pine boards down a couple of years ago.

The candle below is a Dollar Store pillar wrapped in paper printed  with random graphics....
bird feathers, music notes, etc.and gold braid ribbon, don't burn the candle with the paper taped around it!

The ice-crystal candle ring was bought at the Dollar Store.

The globe is a music box.

Greenery came from our Royal Ranger Outpost...they sell Christmas trees every year. There is a funny story about them. Last Wednesday Night at church I asked a couple of the teens if I could have a few of the branches for decorating. "Sure," they said, "where would you like us to put them?" "In the back of my pickup." A while later [after looking all over the parking lot] they came back and said they could not find my truck.
 Oh! no!
Then our 13 yo granddaughter said, "Grammy! You drove the other vehicle!"

 OOPS! Sorry!

I try to incorporate bits of nature in all my vignettes....pine branches, birds, their nests and eggs,  seashells...

We found this shell on one of our walks on the beach years ago.

Remember the candlestick plus plate equals cakeplate in a previous post?

You can see several in the picture below.

I hope you don't think any less of me now I have let you in on my decorating sluggardness. [I also like making up words]

Thank you, Sherry, At Charm of Home for featuring my post on my red transferware! How wonderful is that? It is so amazing the kind folks you meet in blogland!

Try to remember that this season is not about presents, but about His Presence.
