Soothing, Calming Vignette, But Never Boring!

Do you ever need to have some nice calming neutrals in your home?
No jarring colors to compete with your senses,
 just nice, soothing colors.....

not boring though!

There is absolutely no reason to do boring!

That is where layering various textures and heights comes in.

The first layer is a creamy bedspread. A bedspread for a tablecloth?
Yupp!
Your little old ears did not deceive you. I said a bedspread.

Next comes a brown and cream toile, folded as a runner.

 The ends are not sewn.
[I have a problem with committing a favorite piece of fabric to just one use....
probably need counseling!
Do any of you ever have the same issues? Maybe we could start a support group!]

Next comes a tray with a cream and white tiny gingham checked fabric.
I tied a length of ecru lace around three books, the older the better.
Try to use odd numbers in your groupings.

I found this darling teapot.

Most of my vignettes end up with some shells and clocks and creamware....

because I like them. You can use what you like...

There you go!
Soothing! Calming!
Never boring!
Life gets stressful. People can really be cruel.
It can be difficult to avoid the tension that marks our days. Try to carve out some space, physically, mentally, emotionally where it is safe....for you and your family. Sometimes, 24/7 connection with Facebook, Twitter, the phone and  other good and wonderful communication devices makes us vulnerable.
It is up to us to make our home a sanctuary for our family and ourselves!

Have a blessed week,
Audrey

Toile, Gingham, Lace, Easy Peasy Curtain

Toile, gingham, lace and very little sewing. What is there not to love about this sweet window treatment?

Our guest bedroom must serve many different folks. Our Grands, my parents, our adult children when they come to visit. We also have guest speakers stay with us on occasion. It is painted in a rich buttery yellow. In the Summer I put a cream comforter in there, but Winter calls for cozier linens.

A fussy treatment seems to overwhelm such a small space so I came up with this simple topper.

The topper is the width of my toile fabric, I eyeballed how long to make it, turned the edges with the iron and stitched tiny hems. You could use fabric glue if you don't sew.

Then clip it up with curtain rings. Love, love these little guys!

The curtain is a piece of gingham with the edges turned under. I clipped a piece of lace to drape over the checked fabric. See...told you it was easy!

Didn't even hem the sides!

SWEET and SIMPLE

Hope you liked it!

Have an awesome week!

Blessings, Audrey

Fifi O'Neil Storage

A few years ago
I was trying to decide how to spiff- up this storage unit that we had bought from Lowe's .... when.....

Lo and Behold.... this picture was in
one of my magazines! Fifi O'Neil has the greatest eye for making simple things glamorous!

Love her style!

Black and cream toile is a favorite of mine [it can be found in almost every room of our cottage] and it goes beautifully with another favorite.

Red...I Adore Red

Can you tell what room this is? There is a little hint here and there.

Loads of things can be hidden behind the fabric.

Can you guess that this is my sewing/jewelry crafting/soap making/ studio! I am so blessed to have a room dedicated to all my junk, I mean, supplies!

My trusty old Kenmore. The Bulletin board hanging above the sewing machine is the one I made in a previous post. You can go here to make your own.

My office chair can slide around from one task to another. I use the large desk as a cutting board/ work area .

This desk is hardly ever seen. It is covered with fabric or beads most of the time.

The armoire stores scrapbook and  embroidery supplies.

Fabric and buttons are stored in the unit across from my desk.

Did I ever tell you that I love red?
