"Hoosier Daddy?"

In our little cottage we have a cupboard commonly known as a "Hoosier". In the 1930's all of the baking supplies were stored in these marvelous units.

We found our Hoosier in several pieces stored in a friends barn.

We painted it black...stained the doors...put beadboard in the back of the shelving.....

This is where I now store my baking supplies.

JOY!!!

Walmart carries these wonderful glass canisters.

I designed labels for all my staples [got tired of trying to remember which flour was which].

Candy Corn is a necessity of life, don't you know?

White linens and Homer Laughlin dishes dress the shelf for Fall.

Some of our cookbooks are on top of the hoozier.

I made the stickers with paper that has an adhesive on the back...
just design them....
print ....
cut them out...
peel the paper off the back....
slap 'em on

We hang pictures, plates, wall-hangings, sconces, etc
all over the place ...gives a cozy, English cottage feel.

My Sweetheart painted this oil

The dining room table set for Fall

Even our refrigerator gets its Fall duds on. The lace is a curtain sheer doubled and draped over the fridge [looks pretty and keeps the dust at bay].

 Ooops! The  lampshade was crooked.

Acorns make a nice nest for my birdhouse.
Can you see the chicken peeking around the pedestal
dish?

In the current economy every one is feeling the pinch of trying to make ends meet.

Some folks have been without employment for quite sometime. When you go through your closets this Fall remember to donate to your local shelters. Our church has opened a clothing and food pantry for the needy. Many centers around you would appreciate your stuff and even your time. You will get the benefit of knowing you have you have done a good deed!

Never heard of a hoozier before, very lovely and useful, too! And candy corn is most definitely a necessity! You're so right about donating, we donate all things, pretty much on a regular basis. Thanks for the reminder.

Love the post title. Very clever!! Thanks for stopping by. Our paint colors do look very similar. Mine is Jack-o-Lantern by Benjamin Moore. I think my camera helps me a lot with taking nice photos. I have a Canon T2i DSLR. I practice a lot!!! I only use the manual setting now and it's all trial and error plus I read a lot of photo blogs for tips and tricks!!
Love all your fall decor. I especially like the acorns and bird house combo..two of my favorite things!

Hi, Audrey! What a great piece. I'm loving those glass jars these days. Everytime I turn around I find something else that "needs" to be stored in a glass jar! LOL!
Oh, and cute post title!

What a great piece. Love that you are able to keep all of your baking supplies in one spot. Mine are sort in different areas which is a bummer. Those labels are darling.

Hi Audrey, thanks for visiting. I've always had a thing for Hoosiers, how lucky to have such a pretty spot for your baking supplies. I love the labels you designed for the vintage-look canisters, its the perfect touch!

Such great ideas here. Your Hoosier makes me miss the one we used to have when we were first married. After we moved we didn't have room for it in the kitchen and I sold it. : ( Yours painted black is stunning.
Loved the bird house nested in acorns and your thoughts on donating items. Thank you for all of your inspiration and linking up to Motivated Monday at BeColorful

We rescued a hoosier in pieces for our 5th anniversary gift to ourselves 30 years ago. Has a roll-top, what fun scraping off all those layers of paint was. It is now natural wood with an all white (yawn) interior. Hubs would never allow paint on the exterior, but maybe inside. Yours looks great!!
